Course Improvements

Starting with the 2010 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach, golf began its drive to promote the "Brown is the new Green" mantra, putting the ideals of sustainable golf and fast and firm conditions into the spotlight for every USGA sanctioned event.

2Green_MowingChangeThe Golf Resource Group embraces this philosophy and examines every project for potential course improvements that increase efficiency and maintain a superior golf experience. Our philosophy establishes the groundwork for long range planning that results in verifiable efficiency improvement through adjustments to the golf course. These adjustments can be minor changes in mowing patterns, the removal or replacement of trees, or re-establishing putting green perimeters, all of which can be done either within annual budgets. They can also be more significant upgrades such as bunker redesign, turf renovations or the installation of drainage or sand topdressing which require large cash outlays. We examine each case through the lens of fiscal responsibility, striving to keep paybacks under five years.

Our Process

We begin with a full golf course design and maintenance plan assessment, evaluating your facility relative to the market you currently serve.

This assessment examines the efficiency of:

  • Turf types and plantings, including trees, shrubs, and native grasses
  • Green perimeters, pin areas and chipping swales, and collection hollows
  • Mowing patterns including fairway widths, approaches to green complexes, and teeing grounds
  • Bunker styles and the corresponding mowing patterns around these features

By examining opportunities to increase the efficiency of these areas, we hope proposed improvements will allow owners free up budget money and maximize revenue. Our end product makes recommendations for further action like introducing in-house projects or the integrating future long range master planning.
